Physical Therapy for Vestibular Conditions
Physical therapy for vestibular conditions focuses on restoring balance, reducing dizziness, and improving overall stability for individuals with disorders affecting the inner ear and vestibular system. Common conditions treated include vertigo, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), vestibular neuritis, Meniere’s disease, and post-concussion dizziness.
Vestibular physical therapists use specialized techniques such as canalith repositioning maneuvers (like the Epley maneuver for BPPV), balance training, gaze stabilization exercises, and habituation exercises to retrain the brain and body to process sensory information more accurately. These exercises help reduce dizziness, improve coordination, and increase confidence with everyday movements like walking, turning, or changing positions.
