A stiff neck can happen at any point in our lives, and more often than not, we’ve all had some kind of neck strain to deal with. If the pain is severe, and it greatly restricts your daily routine, we recommend you schedule an appointment at our office immediately. However, if it’s a generally mild strain with little to moderate impact on your daily routine, you can try these 2 simple methods to alleviate your pain.
Here are 2 Treatment Options for Neck Stiffness*
- Applying a gentle stretch to the neck can often ease and elongate tight muscles, allowing pinched nerves or compressed blood vessels to be released. – Lie down on your back and place a folded (lengthwise) hand towel under the curve at the back of your head. Grab the towel at both ends, and gently pull the towel up and away from your shoulders. Try to hold the position for at least 3 minutes. The key here is to be gentle, and relax your neck muscles. Repeat the exercise 2-3 times per-day or until you feel some relief.
- Soaking in Epsom Salt can be very relaxing to your tight neck muscles. – Add 2 cups of Epsom Salt to a warm bath full of water. Soak your neck in the bath for 15 – 20 minutes, allowing the Magnesium to be absorbed through your skin.
