Start Practicing Yoga To Improve Flexibility

October 25, 2016

Flexibility has often been overlooked by athletes and casual fitness goers because of the time required to commit to accomplish to reap its benefits. Flexibility is the term given to understand the range of limb movements needed around the joints. Yoga is one of the most effective ways to improve flexibility when practiced regularly.

Exercises to improve flexibility aim to improve the range of movement of our agonist muscles, which makes our joints move.

One of the most effective exercises to improve flexibility is with yoga, which incorporates active stretching through poses and breathing exercises in order to build some strength and mobility in our agonist muscles. With a different variety of postures ranging from beginner to advanced level, yoga allows for the subtle stretching of your muscles while honing your breathing techniques. As an added benefit, yoga is often practiced to reduce stress.

You don’t have to be flexible to start your yoga journey. In fact, the exercise is meant to help people from all walks of life improve their basic range of motion through progressive stretches and poses. Using an unlimited number of poses that range from the “crow pose” to the variety of standing poses, you can effectively loosen up tight hip flexors, and improve posture problems arising from muscle imbalances.

Many people don’t actually enjoy stretching because it doesn’t seem intuitive and can be mundane. Yoga focuses on breathing techniques while you incorporate active stretching, which increases your strength and flexibility without you even realizing it. You won’t be mindlessly stretching, but instead, you’ll be focussed on keeping your pose while ensuring your breathing is held steady.

Yoga is extremely diverse, with multiple schools that fit according to your lifestyle, ability, and needs. With such a plethora of choices available, those that are injury prone or have sustained previous injuries can easily assimilate into a yoga class that fits their physical abilities.

Regardless, it cannot be denied how effective yoga practice is to improve flexibilty and everyone should incorporate some form of it into their workout routine in order to lead a healthier lifestyle.
